Charging Instructions

Charger Types

In general, the higher the power of the charging station , the faster your electric car will be charged. The actual charging power used also depends on how quickly your car can charge. Before the first charging process, check the technical design of your vehicle in the information provided by the manufacturer.

General available charging stations:

Charging station Plug Maximum charging power
AC-Ladestation Schuko plug, type 2 plug Schuko plug 3.6 kW / Type 2 plug 22 kW.
AC/DC-Ladestation CCS, CHAdeMO, Type 2 Fast charging station, up to 50 kW charging power.
e-Call a Bike Ladestation 2 Schuko sockets 3.6 kW (16 A)

Charging Time

How quickly your electric car’s battery can be charged depends on both the charging capacity of your vehicle’s internal charger and the maximum charging capacity of the charging point. The lower value specifies the maximum charging power possible.

To calculate the actual charging time of your electric car, divide the battery capacity by the charging power of the electric car. For example, if your electric car has a battery capacity of 85 kWh and the charging port has a charging capacity of 22 kW, then the charging time is around four hours. If you useone of our fast charging stations, the charging time can be reduced so much that you can charge 100 km range in just 5 minutes.

FAQ

Switching can help you save money, get better tariffs, access renewable energy options, or improve customer service.

No, the process is simple and regulated. Your new provider handles most of the paperwork.

No, the physical supply comes from the local grid operator, so switching only changes your contract and billing.

You can switch at any time, but fixed-term contracts may have notice periods (usually 4–6 weeks before the end of the contract).

Typically 2–6 weeks, depending on the providers involved.

Usually, the new provider handles the cancellation, but confirm this before signing.

Often yes, especially if you’ve been in the default Grundversorgung tariff, which is usually more expensive.

Some providers charge exit fees if you leave a fixed-term contract early. Check your current contract terms.

Fixed tariffs lock in prices for a set period while variable tariffs can change monthly.

You’ll receive a final meter reading request and a closing bill (Abschlussrechnung).

You can either transfer your contract (if the provider services the new area) or sign a new one.

Your new provider is responsible for billing and customer service, while the local grid operator handles technical issues.

There are many options available for different needs and at different price ranges. An exhaustive list can be viewed here.

Our charging stations are powered by Photovoltaic (PV) systems located on the roofs of Germany’s leading supermarkets, generating PV solar energy locally, and synergising perfectly with our onsite EV hyperchargers.

Yes, the SPARK app is free to download and use. Charges only apply to actual charging sessions based on the tariff or price shown in the app.
You can download the SPARK app from the App Store or Google Play. Once downloaded, simply follow the installation steps on your smartphone.
After downloading the app, you can create your user account, complete your profile details and add a payment method. Adding a payment method is required in order to start a charging session. Once this is done, your account is ready for charging.

You can start a charging session in the SPARK app in three ways:

  1. Using the map view in the app – Select a charging station on the map, tap “Charge”, and then choose the correct charge point.
  2. By QR code – Scan the QR code at the charging station to start your charging session directly. Please note that this option may not be available at all charging stations operated by external partners.
  3. With the GME charging card – Simply tap your GME charging card on the RFID card reader at the charging station.
You can stop the charging session directly in the SPARK app. If the charging session was started with a GME charging card, it can usually also be ended using the same card.
Charging is billed automatically using the payment method saved in your account. The cost is based on the price shown in the app for the selected charge point. Once a month, you will receive an invoice covering all charging sessions billed during that period. The invoice will be sent to you by email on the first day of the month and will also be available in the app.
The applicable price is displayed in the SPARK app before you start charging. This way, you can see the cost before the session begins.
Yes, the SPARK app shows the current status of charging stations and charge points. This allows you to check in advance whether a suitable charge point is available.
Yes, the SPARK app can redirect you to your preferred navigation app so you can navigate directly to the selected charging station.
Yes, if your account is set up accordingly, you can also start charging sessions using a GME charging card. This is particularly useful if you do not want to use the app to start charging. You can order the charging card directly in the app by selecting “Charging Card Options” and then “Order Card”.
You can order and then activate your GME charging card in the app under “Charging Card Options”. The exact steps will be shown there.
With SPARK, you can use both GME-operated charging stations and charging stations from roaming partners, as long as they are shown as available in the app.
You can find your charging history in your account under “Charging Activity”. There, you will see an overview of all completed charging sessions, including information about the charge point, cost, energy charged and charging time. All issued invoices are also available in this section.
You can find your invoices in your account under “Charging Activity”. All issued invoices are available there for you to view at any time.

Please first check the cable connection, the charge point status in the app, and your payment method. If the issue persists, please contact our support team at +49 40 22 89 77 99.
